I must confess that I use both live and frozen/thawed depending on what is locally available. Dead is better for a few reasons.

One, your snake can be injured by live prey. My knoblochi was constricting a small mouse one time, and the mouse managed to puncture my snakes eye with his claw.

Two, any parasites (internal or external) that the mouse could pass on to your snake should be killed by the freezing process.

Feeding live. The problem is it is so much cheaper to mail order frozen. I do both but the live are more of an occasional treat.

...feeding live too. Mine get a combination, sometimes live, sometimes fresh-killed, sometimes frozen. When feeding live adult mice to my kings I always watch to make sure the snake wraps and kills it promtly and properly. I never leave a live mouse in a snake's box without supervision, and never for very long if it happens at all.
