question about adding substrate

jeune18 May 30, 2004 11:52 AM

i have not had helga on anything but a floor mat since she had open wounds on her feet. she is still on antibiotics and her toes have healed but there are still two toes waiting to fall off. should i wait to add substrate until all the toes have fallen off and healed or do you think that i can add sand or whatnot since she is on antibiotics? i just feel bad that she cannot burrow or anything.
thanks

hey,
so, what happened? her feet got hurt and now they've healed but some toes are still going to fall off?

are you sure the toes are going to fall off?

if they are...i would leave her off substrate until the toes fall off and there's no more open wound, preferably no scabs either. that way shye can't get anything in there that will possibly get infected or take longer to heal.

hope this helps.

helga was a rescue who was kept in a cage with no heat and no lights. they really did a number on her. she has not peeled correctly in only god knows how long and she has the beginnings of MBD which i hope is stopping. right now she only has 5 toes on her back feet and two of them are "dangling" they are broken skin partly gone, just have not come off yet. i was told to leave them alone till they fell off. she has been getting injections of antibiotics every morning. but i will keep her on the carpet until all of them are gone and healed.
thanks for the info!
