My BP is growing out of his cage quickly...

CloverB May 30, 2004 12:23 PM

I want to provide an encloser that Monti can live in the rest of his life... but buying everything at the store is a little out of our price range. We were thinking of building something big but the walls would be screens. Is that ok?? Any suggestions??? Thanx!!!

the only problem would be keeping the humidity up were it should be

You will have a difficult time adequately heating this cage and maintaining optimal humidity levels. The other problem is that you run the risk of cool drafts and, perhaps even more concerning, rostral rubbing of the snake. You would be much better off purchasing a cage designed for snakes such as a Vision, Habitat Systems, Neodesha, Crescent Moon Creation (a new player on the block but they do exceptional work).....you can't go wrong with any of these (unfortunately, neodesha is out of business again). you can also make a custom cage out of melamine or wood (thats sealed)

Also as long as the cage is atleast half the size of the snake (like 3ft long for a 6ft snake) is the MIN size cage you can have. Most balls do better in smaller cages anyways (better feeding, less stress. etc..)

if you had a screen cage he would probably rub his nose, not adequate heating and not enough humdidity.

for a quick solution (and cheaper) go for a sterilite tub. That way in the meantime you can save up for a nice display cage - if that's what you want.

I love this setup (the link probably won't work. if it doesn't you can email me for the link. I think kingsnake bans links to this site.)
