Thought I'd share a couple of pics.............

of my big girl and her setup since I was out there cleaning her cage last night (yep, I'm enjoying the new camera! lol).

Here's a pic of her in the holding tub that I use while cleaning her cage. She's around 13' and probably 80-90lbs easy. I haven't weighed her since I got her back last November (she was 70lbs then and around 11-12') but she's grown noticably since I've had her.

And this is the cage I built for her. Probably overkill on the security (3/4 inch melamine coated fiberboard, 1/4 inch lexan doors, heavy duty hinges and padlocks) but that was the deal for me keeping her at my Mom's house (just not enough room for the cage here).

I eventually want to build her a larger cage, but this will have to make do for now until I have more space and money for it. It does the job well enough though and she seems to like it loads better than the plywood cage she had at her previous owner's place. It's a lot easier to clean for me, and doesn't hold odors like the plywood one did plus - with it being white - it's a lot brighter inside and not so dark and dingy looking. It also holds heat way better than the old cage - one 150 Watt heat emitter at one end does the trick (hot end around 90-92F, cool end around 80-82F). It also holds humidity pretty well, I've not had any problems with retained sheds in this cage, even with the winter heat going. The only drawback to it is the weight, there is no moving this thing without giving yourself a hernia - on the plus side, she can't move it either when I'm getting her in and out.

Awesome Burm. On the cage where the 2 windows are covered, does that just serve as a hide spot?

feeding doors. She'd been trained by the original owner that movement around the left-hand doors meant food. Both my best friend (who I got her from) and myself have kept in with that practice. Only food is introduced through that side and all water changes and handling are through the larger right-hand door. She also seems to like the privacy of it with the curtains and will often have most of her body at that end of the enclosure and 'peek' through the window of the open end. Covering the windows also provides the perfect hide for an animal that's 13' long...somehow those little plastic tubs and dishes I use for small snakes don't cut it any more. lol

but she's a strong girl and I didn't want to use only one per door and have her push out a corner. Also, since she's at my Mom's place, the deal was that the cage had to be ultra secure. Mom had no desire to wake up and find a loose 13' snake in the house. Funny thing is, she's never tried to push out of any cage. Even with her old home of a plywood cage with sliding glass doors (that were never kept locked!), she didn't try to get out. She's content to curl up and wait to be let out or be fed. When she's tired of playtime, she'll crawl back in the cage on her own - no wrestling her into the cage at all.
