Question about feeding a Cape Gopher (vertibralis)

birddog5151 May 30, 2004 01:04 PM

I have a 5 foot Cape Gopher. It is a healthy, active, beautiful snake. The problem is eating. It prefers live and I am trying to switch it to f/t. Sometimes with the live it acts intimidated by the mouse. I wait to try again anywhere from 2-4 days. I really want it to take f/t. The snake has good weight. It just isn't the "bottomless Pit" a Sayi is...any ideas??? Temps are good. The snake is active.

Try warming up the thawed mouse with a blow dryer before feeding. Also try holding the mouse in front of him by the tip of the tail. If that doesn't work place it in his hide box. It might take a few weeks but if you keep trying this he will eventually switch over. Good luck.

Holding by the tail works for others. Not the Cape. The blow dryer idea sounds like a good one. I'll let you know.
