How 'bout roaches - I keep discoids, they cost a little more to get started w/ but once you have the colony going they are really easy to keep up and more than pay for themselves. Be carefull where you buy them though - see a posting just a little bit down to see what i mean.

yeah, those roaches in the post are freaky! my bd is small(12 inches) how long do roaches live?
roaches can live for several years it depends on the type of roach. Be prepared to buy the roaches and a tub to keep them in. If you dont want to wait a year for babies you need to buy adults. 5 males and 15 females is a good start. Females give live birth to as many as 50 babies at a time. they will be big enough to feed at about 3-4 months. you need to hold some back to increase your colony as well. It really is more of a long term deal if you want to do it economically.
from what I see, you are best off with a rep cal pellet diet. suppliment with greens, dusted with T-rex VGF. If you buy a 5lbs bag and bulk VGF, I'm guessing it will last till new years.
