Housing a 7year old new gecko

devious_froggy May 30, 2004 08:42 PM

I have a seven year old female normal gecko. i was contemplating getting another one, maybe a blizzard. i definatley want to try to get an adult or at least wait untill they younger one is that same size to put them togther, but my question is how well will the older one adapt to having a cage mate after so long being alone? i want to try to get another female...or would a male be a better choice? i plan to build a 33-ish gallon enclosure out of verigated plastic and screen, quite similar to what i made for my WTF, minus the plants and long instead of tall (see my pics).

Hi!

Seven years old, huh? Thats awesome

You should definately get another gecko of the same size, or like you said, wait until one you get grows to be the same size. Make sure that whatever you chose, you quarantine it for about 3 months before putting them together, to make sure the new girl isnt sick. Usually females get along pretty good when introduced. Theres always exceptions, but just watch over how they react to each other at first- they will probably be fine. Just make sure they arent fighting, there are a couple hides for each of them, and also make sure that each gets her full share of food.

I would get another female. if you get a male, they WILL mate, and if kept together constantly he can really stress out the female by constantly wanting to mate with her. better of with just two females Hope this helps and good luck!
