i just got a babie bearded dragon and could use some help

hey i was wondering if you need 1 of those lights to put over the cage within the day u got him,cause i got him today but im gonna get a light tomorrow.thanxs

I think you're referring to a spot bulb for basking. He'll be fine - just try to keep him warm in the meantime. If you have a dome lamp you can just use a regular bulb you'd have around the house. Don't waste your money on those spot bulbs at pet stores. I use 100 watts for my adult dragons in dome fixtures from Wal-mart. Just monitor the heat to find the best wattage, it all depends on your enclosure. Spend the extra money on a reptisun 5.0 for UVB and a fixture though.

Household bulbs don't do the job properly. You NEED a spot or a flood depending on your enclosure. A household bulb only puts out radient heat and only a portion of that is directed down to bask. If you use a spot, you need less watage for the same heat and it will be a focused beam so it heats the basking spot more so than the entire enclosure. If it is a screen top glass cage even more so. You can get a halogen spot or flood for a little more money that will give you more heat for the same wattage.
