Wait to feed?

AshleyM Jun 18, 2003 10:14 AM

I have a baby banded BP, and I have a question about his feeding schedule. I've been feeding him regularly, about every 7 days, and he has had 3 meals and has not defecated yet. Should I wait until he defecates to keep feeding, or should I keep feeding?

You don't mention the size of the food item. It's not unusual for a BP to go a month or more without defecating. I believe my "growing" BPs averaged 3 weeks while my adults averaged 5 weeks. I would not worry at this point.

Well, I wouldn't worry just yet.

BUT if you are worried, there are two things you could try if you think he's constipated.
1: Soak the food item (if it's f/t).
2: Give him a nice warm bath for about an hour.

That'll looses him up if he needs it.

Be extremely careful. Warm to us is often too warm for them.

Of course, my mistake not to be specific enough.

JUST slightly warmer than room temperature.

There we go.

I'm feeding hopper mice, and I think I'll not worry too much right now - I'll give him a good soak, and keep him on his regularly scheduled meals. He doesn't seem uncomfortable or swollen in any way, so thanks for easing my mind!
