Substrate and plant ponderings

Daniel J May 30, 2004 11:49 PM

I'm building a new cage as we speak and I'm wanting to go with a natural look of the cage. What would be some good plants to put in there? I was planing of putting a yuca plant in there. Something robust. But I also want something else that'll stand the heat.
Also, for a substrate I don't really want to go for sand, since it's not too "earthy" looking. I'm thinking about regular soil, with some peat and cypress mulch. Any objections or recommendations?

Thanks,
Daniel & Icky

A Yucca might be a little rough--they can be pointy. I typically do the tropicals but the frillies can tear them up pretty good. An adult fig or ficus that is sturdy might work.
I use cypress mulch and soil for substrate and it works great.
