W.C. Ambanja Not Eating or Drinking, Please Help.

tcharboneau May 31, 2004 12:37 AM

I purchased an W.C. Ambanja in mid February of this year. He has been doing fine until about two weeks ago at which time he dropped way back on eating. He will eat a few super worms and an occasional cricket. He is losing weight. Today he stopped drinking where as he was actively drinking until now.

If anyone has any ideas please help me. I really don't want to lose him or have him suffer in anyway.

Thank You,
Toni

I would suggest a vet visit. Read the thread below about Jovana's sudden loss. If there is no other reason for the change it may be parasites. I am not an expert at all (no wc herps) but her cham had been in the country for a year and went downhill fast in the few weeks she had him - with a huge parasite load.

Just my 2 cents

Lele,

Thanks so much for you thoughts...I have had him to the vet who could not see anything wrong. I am inclined to think this may be a problem with parasites and am going to start the Panacur tonight. Keep you fingers crossed that I don't kill it trying to help.

yes please start dosing him. I dont think round worms and stomach worms like what my chameleon had show up in fecal exams because they are so large..I could be wrong though ivan could possibly let us know.

I would not do full doses of panacure though, I'd do only half doses because you could easily kill him if he's already weak and you kill all the parasites off at once he might not be able to pass them and poisen himself. GOOD LUCK! I really hope your boy turns out better than mine.

by the way...could you e-mail me and tell me who you got it from, see if its the same seller.

Toni,

Is your vet a herp vet?? Did you bring a fecal? If they are intestinal worms they would show up in a fecal. You may want to find one who has experience with chams. There is a listing by state: http://www.anapsid.org/vets/index.html

I am not too sure how safe it is to use Panacur (or any other) w/o knowing what it is you are treating. But, that said there are two articles in the July 2002 ChamNews you may want to read (see link below). Do you know how much to give? It is prescribed by weight.

You may want to get some other input here from folks with more experience. I have only used panacur for anoles and had to dilute the s--t out of it!
