snake does not come out of the hides and i've never seen it touch the water

JohnGotGhosts May 31, 2004 04:57 AM

Is it just because he's still a baby and shy? It's only been about 3 days since I had her. Or is this something I should worry about? She seems to be eating fine and when I take her out to play, she seems to move around normally. Please help!! Thank you.

Hi! It is perfectly normal for them to remain in their hides most of the time, and it was awhile before I ever saw my first corn drink water. When I did eventually see her I thought it was the coolest thing! (still do! haha)

However, if you've only had yours about 3 days it's really not good to have fed AND handled it in that period of time. That is very stressful for a new baby corn.

But regardless, it's going to hide most of the time.

Good luck, and enjoy!

this is normal for babies. my corns hid all the time when they were babies. now they are yearlings and come out alot. if you've only had it for 3 days then it's going to hide. it's in a new place. they will also drink when they need to. (it's neat to watch them :0). Shouldn't handle them after feeding. Wait 36-48 hours at least.

After handling my snakes, before I sit them down in their tank i place their heads over their water dishes - my Ball Python, corn snake and Kenyan Sand boa all drink for me when I do this. It is neat to watch. Your snake is probably drinking when you're not looking - plus they get fluids from their food.

keep in mind that your corn is a nocturnal animal...most of its moving around takes place at night, probably while your sleeping
