Crestie Escaped...help...

lilroach56 May 31, 2004 06:32 AM

My crestie escaped yesterday from his/her cage. I have looked all around my room and shortly later my father and i will be doing a full search in my room. He/she escaped sometime betweeen the hours of 12:00 and 9:00 p.m. Has anyone had experience with catching escaped cresties?

just keep yours eyes peeled. i had a 2 month old get out awhile back. it was out for 2 days before i realized it was gone ( it was in with 2 others and i usually just toss food in there and spray) so we stripped the whole room down and pulled all of the lizard cages out and found it behind about 50 board games up on the wall.

one thing that's nice about geckos getting out is ( atleast with my experience) you tend to find them sticking to the walls.
good luck.

I had one escape while cleaning cages once. It was a flighty one, so I had it in a toilet paper cardboard tube while giving the cage a thorough cleaning. It was fine in there until I put it back in the cage, when it promptly spazzed and ran up the side of the cage and jumped. I certainly wasn't expecting that. It made for the corner of the kitchen where there's a hole in the wall... well... I wasn't expecting to find him again.

I did a thorough search of the kitchen, using a mirror and flashlight to check under the lip of the cabinets. I left out food and water near the corner and checked every time I went into the kitchen and still no go. Finally, about five days after the event, I went into the kitchen one night to get a glass of water and there he was, sitting on the edge of a cookie sheet I had sitting next to the sink ready to be washed. He was definitely not in his best colors, but a few days later he was looking in top condition once again.

Now I never take my geckos into the kitchen with me while cleaning. If one ever does escape again, it's far easier to catch them if they're in their usual room. There's less inconvenient places to search and as far as I know, no holes into the walls. I would just say to be patient and be calm, and arm yourself with a flashlight and make another search at night when your crestie is likely to be more active.

Good luck!

Here is what happened:
Last night I was preparing a feast (a few tablespoons of baby food and CGD) to attract peaches back. As i was getting the egg crates from the cage (so peaches could eat and then sleep) peaches was found sleeping on one. So i quicly put peaches back in the cage and put the lid and a text book on it. After that i needed to take some medicine so i left the room. When i returned peaches was nowhere to be found. So after tearing through the cage i found him/her hiding under the paper towels.

The moral of the story is:If you ever lose your gecko look under the paper towels.

Yes! Heh... I've had a few panicked moments before when I've discovered the little guys decided to go under the paper towels. I'm glad everything turned out okay!
