hi
I have had firebellied toads for about 2-3 years. I brought my original trio as B.orientalis, but i now doubt this as they are brown with tiny white rings around their skin pores (b.bombina?)
,I lost one not long after getting them. I have since got two more females (99% sure B.orientalis) and three young, one of which i think may be a hybrid as he is mostly green ontop with a couple patches of brown, the other two appear to be B.orientalis. So in short that is 1.1 B.bombina
0.2.2 B.orientalis
0.1 hybrid ????
They are in a 4ft long tank, very naturalistic kept at room temp (uk)My problem is the male is ready to breed, very eager and calling 24/7 , he only tries mating with the brown female and she throws him off. Do you think getting another male b.bombina and a couple male B.orientalis would get some competition going and encourage the females?is there a risk they will hybridise? Does anyone have any other ideas for getting females into breeding 'mode' ??
Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance for any advice
