Enough debate, here a pic of my "GREEN LEAF FROG"

rodmalm May 31, 2004 07:27 AM

Gotcha!!

Well, it is a frog, and it is made of green leaves. I got tired of looking at a round bush, then a square bush, then a diamond shaped bush, so I thought I'd try some animal topiary. Turned out pretty good so far. This was the second trimming. Can't wait for it to fill in so I can trim it again and get some better definition to it.

About 2 1/2 hours total.

I first trimmed it late last fall. That took about 2 hours. (lots of larger branches in the way) Cutting these larger branches, that had to go, made some nasty holes in the bush. My sister saw it and said, "That's a frog? You have some imagination!"

This spring, when it started growing again, I gave it it's second trim. This time my sister was amazed. This was a much quicker process because it was all done with an electric trimmer (no big branches to remove) and the shape was getting close, about 1/2 hour of cutting, standing back and looking at it, picturing a frog in my mind, trimming again, etc.

Now I plan on buying some more of these bushes and having about 5 to 7 of them (all frogs) all around the lawn. I also need to take some cuttings, and sprout them, to make front some front legs. (I actually made two frogs from bushes, but one needs to fill in again and be trimmed a few more times. This second bush had some really large branches that left some really big holes in the bush!) So, between the two frogs I made, they only have one front leg, and they also both need rear feet. Hopefully they will grow enough so I can have this done before winter. I used to wish they would grow slower so I wouldn't have to trim them so often, I now wish they would grow faster, so I could trim them again and make them look even more like frogs!
