Getting back into colubrids after 12 years...

toddg May 31, 2004 10:31 AM

Hey all,

I plan to get back into colubrids within the next year or so. Also, slowly working towards a small breeding colony of snakes which has been a dream of mine since childhood. Pythons is what I prefer but why stop there? The first snake I owned was a cal king and these lovely animals still have a special place in my heart - try telling that to a non herper! I have been looking at pics and browsing the net for info on colubrids to play catch up. I am not familiar with what is popular and the different morphs. Can all please leave links to breeders sites and other webpages with information of husbandy and breeding of your favorite colubrids. It would be most appreciative.

Thanks a million and good luck with everyones new clutches.

I would say search the Colubrid classifieds here. It is a good indicator of what is out there in numbers. As for caresheets, they are all so general, but with many colubrids, general works. Temps 80-84 warm side, less than that cool side (70s fine). No worries about cooler temps. Must cool in Winter down to 55 deg or so for 12 weeks or more (at least for breeding).

Cal kings are a good snake to keep. They are much more squiggly than BPs when held.
