VERY Bad NEws...

matthew Jun 18, 2003 10:40 AM

i havent really posted in here at all about Taz, and its not looking good at all. ill give you the whole thing.... about 2months ago. Taz and my dog got in a fight. Taz took my dogs ear off! and Taz got bit on the tail. both went to the vet. Taz had a deep bite in his tail and it wasnt healing the best. last week Taz i noticed wasnt moving all that much and didnt go after his food like he normally does. i had to go help my mom with some stuff i had planned about a week before this so my dad just took Taz to the vet. (i work at a Vet/PetStore) so they know Taz and everything... they looked at the tail to see if it was a bad infection that we couldnt see or something like that, but it wasnt. they took some tests and they found cancer in Taz and they said he has 3-6months to live. this really sucks......
they said the best thing to do is put him down before he dies of this because in the end his arms/legs will stop working and he wont be able to move. so he might not make it to 3years of age...
i am going to get another tegu from Bert in 3 weeks... when the new babies hatch.
later all

So VERY sorry to hear about Taz! It is always hard to lose a pet. I also know how hard it is to make the decision to put one down is, and I feel for you.

Good luck with your new "kid" on the way.
My condolences,
Donna

I'm so sorry. I know how difficult it is to lose an animal (I lost my 3-year-old Sav to illness just a few months ago, and I still really miss him).

From what I've read about him he sounds like he's a real gem of a lizard, he was one of the main reasons I decided to get a tegu. Heck I even named my first tegu Taz. It's so sad for me to hear this news, I can imagine how you feel.

I'm sorry to hear that too. I had to put my 15 year old water dragon to sleep because she had cataracts and couldn't even see her food to eat it. I cried - so did everybody else at the vet's. I am just getting used to my new tegu. I've had it for about 2 months, so I can imagine a couple of years is hard to deal with. Best of luck to you.

Mathhew, I'm so very sorry to hear about Taz. A lot of people don't equate the loss of a reptile pet with the loss of a dog or a cat. All of us here understand the grief you feel with the loss of a companion reptile pet. Two weeks ago I lost my 9 year old female Cuban Rock Iguana to egg peritonitis, so quick and nothing could be done. I hope Taz's last weeks with you are happy ones.

geez, matthew, i am SO sorry. that is absolutely heartbreaking to read. taz is definetely an outstanding specimen and obviously deeply loved and cared for. i hope that he has a restful, fat and happy remainder of time in this life - kristin

I'm so sorry to hear this, matthew. I think many of us consider our tegus as family members, and it's always difficult when one becomes ill. I hope his remaining time with you is spent happy.

That's SOOO sad, I'm so sorry.

Hugs,
