Could you feed a leo only baby food?

fadetolemons May 31, 2004 10:53 AM

I read about people feeding leos chicken baby food as a supplement if they weren't eating crickets or mealworms. Could you feed a gecko just baby food like this instead of insects? What about trying to feed him some baby food along with mealworms to give him some variety in his diet? Thanks. Will

I don't know about others, but Crystal & I only use baby food if the leo absolutely refuses to eat anything else (or if they're too sick or weak to eat anything on their own). I wouldn't give it to them as their main diet. Part of feeding them baby food is to stimulate their appetite and keep sick ones from getting to weak and starving to death.

Yeah i know this, but my question was if it would be a plus to add it in to their diet on occasion, like maybe once a week or two giving them some baby food if they liked it? because i know one or two of mine really liked it when i tried before, but they always love crickets and mealworms, so i don't have a reason to really use it, ya know? If i mixed it with some calcium and vitamins, should i dab it on their nose once a week or 2 weeks and see how they like it, or just not worry about it?

Like I said, we only feed it to them if absolutely necessary. I wouldn't worry about giving it to them as a supplement - it doesn't last long enough for that (once opened, it has to be refrigerated, and thrown out after the 3rd day). As long as you're feeding your mealies/crickets all the good stuff, the leos should be getting what they need.

Now, a pinky or a couple of waxworms every now and then would be good.

Most local pet stores do. But I wouldn't recommend Petsmart OR Petco.
