Ghost balls....why they are what they are????? more

PBM May 31, 2004 12:36 PM

Hello, I have a question for you ball morph keepers. I can visually see what makes a ghost, and understand they also shed clear. Now, I'm not posting this because I just paid 5 bucks for an import and think it might be a ghost, and I'm not questioning the validity of the morph. I just simply don't understand what is genetically behing this animal that while all pattern is present the sheds come out clear. Any of you guys/gals know why the ghosts work the way they do? Thanks for any input. Take care.

Paul

Ghosts, are the improper term for hypo-melanistic, or in other words less melanin (black pigment). I believe (correct me if im wrong anyone) that the reason they shed clear is because they have so little melanin in their top layer of skin. Just because a snake is 100% red doesn't mean its shed is red.
