rescued 2 iguanas saturday

Alien-reptiles May 31, 2004 01:29 PM

I rescued to iguanas Saturday. They were very cold and bad cage condition and they were not taken care of properly even though they are about 2 feet in length and are fat. The big problem is they were never handeled and I have to get them out with gloves on they try to bite and everything . Where should i start? , I will get a picture of them up soon and more information on them. Ill do anything for them

bring them to a vet. get them in the right caging with the right temps around 100 in the baskiign site and around 70% humidity. keep them hydrated. give them long soaks. fed tehm the right stuff. dark leafy greens colard, dandylion, endive, escarole, are just a few. dont forget calcium and UVB lighting.

but bringing them to the vet is the most important thing of all. that is just a quick list of the things i will go into more detail later but i am heading out the door.

You can email me at zombie2979@aol.com if you have any questions and i will help you in everyway that i can.

what can I do for the handeling and can you add more once you get back in..

and the one iguana sneezed do i have to worry about RI or is that normal?

They sneeze to rid themselves of excess salt. It's normal. You are in good hands with Mike d helping and giving you information. I'm glad you cared enough to take them in and get proper care for them. Good luck with them. Also, give them a little time to get used to the change before attempting to handle them too much. Even friendly and frequently held iguanas don't deal with change very well.

For handling.. give him time to settle in.. it takes igg and any reptile a while to get used to there new enviroment. and they get stressed very easily and they act agressivly to show it.

Now more deatail..lol
For caging i dont remeber if you said you had one or two so if you ahve two you need to give them seprate cages. not if ands or buts about it. you need to! also these cages need to be big! the minimum i would go with is a cage 8 feet long 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall. and these are the minimums.. remeber bigger is always better... you need to give them basking spots of 100 degrees and the humidity needs to be around 70%. also you need a UVB light and this needs to me no more than 12 inches away from the animal. i like teh reptisun 5.0. it is cheaper to buy them online because you can order in bulk!

Feeding
Dark leafy greens!! dandilion, collard, endive, escarole are a few. basically anything EXCEPCT spinich and letuce brocoli related items.. Feed once aday for adults and use calcium suplements on it every day. as well as other vitamins. you can add some vegies and fruits as well. mine likes peas, carrots, green beans, and for fruits he loves bannana.

I will add more whn i get home from work.. it is ussually easier to reach me thru email since i am not always on the site everyday. you can email me at zombie2979@aol.com just put iguana in teh title. i am on aim sometimes and you can reach me there at Zombie2979 or post a topic here with my name in teh title and i will answer it when i come on the site. i will answer any question that you ahev if i know the answer and if i dont i will try and find it out for you.

Good luck with your igg.
