Concerns about Zoo Med Turtle Dock (Is my turtle too heavy?)

margofargo May 31, 2004 02:26 PM

I recently checked out the product review on the Zoo Med Turtle Dock and I found out the poles attaching the dock to the tank are made out of plastic and the dock itself is attached to the tank by suction cups.

I have a 6 year old female RES (Loquat) and she is a big girl. She resides in a 55 gallon tank by herself right now and I have had trouble with suction cup basking areas before because they tend to slip when she tries to get on. I want Loquat to have a secure area where she can enjoy her "sun time."

Has anyone with fully grown turtles had success with the Zoo Med Turtle Dock? Or are there any other products that are good for fully grown turtles? If so, please let me know. Thank you everyone and have a great day!

I have that dock and the suction cups slip off every few days. I just reattach them, it isn't that big of a deal. You can build something more permenant that doesn't use suction cups, but I like that I don't have to worry about the water level

thanks for posting so quickly! Do you have trouble with the dock slipping because the turtle is too big or too heavy? Thanks again!

I think it is just because the suction cups are junk. The basking dock floats tho, so it really isn't a problem, it just floats around the tank with my turtles on it. My guys are about 4 inches long, they don't sink it at all.

Do you think a fully grown turtle can get onto the log?

im not sure. i bought the biggest one available at the petstore---and im noticing my turtle is having a little problems. but she still gets on it. im thinking about buying flat sheets(if its available of corkbark and make a platform with steps or something. i dont know. i wish there was something easy.
