Sarawak female and lil' ol' male

Rich_Crowley May 31, 2004 05:23 PM

Taken just today (5/31/04) I thought to show the comparison in size of these two. The large female is from Chris Carmichael 1999 hatching of which I received two females from. The little guy is from Bob Garby last year and is really turning out to be a golden little tiger--complete with bite

As a side, I have been bitten a whopping three times by bloods in roughly eight years...twice this weekend! That is what you get for getting complacent and for grabbing a sleeping giant

Enjoy the pics. Hopefully, I will have more in a week or two.

Well, we have a real big size difference here. The female is about 10.2kg (22.4lbs) compared to the male who is around 700g.

That makes the female around 1500% bigger!

My other female is coming in at around 8kg from the same hatch date (1999).

Hey Lil',
No! they aren't, they are slightly smaller than Borneo's, which they are closely related to, and share the same species name with (Python Breitenstini). However, the smallest short-tails, are still the Sumatran Short-tails (aka: Black Bloods).

Sarawak's and other P. breitensteini I would have to say get the same size. I do not believe my Sarawaks are done growing certainly not my largest female. And yet I have a male that is just as long, yet much leaner. That is not really saying much since both are at 5.5-5.75 feet in length and 24-26lbs.

I feed my STP's well, but still every 3 weeks or so. They are varied in diet from medium rats to medium rabbits (4lb). I prefer to offer varied prey items as it makes feeding easier and adds a bit of variety. I even fed large quail to them when I had a monitor that would eat them.

As I told a friend who inquired on STP's-Borneos are smaller, but certainly not a small snake. Also remember, even docile beasts have bad days and it is an impressive sight when you have a 25lb snake lunge at you. They can actually jump up with the force of their strikes. Fortunately, I don't have any that aggressive.

Hey Rich,
Beautiful! it is always a great pleasure to see your animals. Especially the Borneo's and Sarawak's, that you are so passionate about. Awesome!

Beautiful pair you have there. That Garby sarawak is unreal, turning out to be a real screamer. Can't wait till you prove out that pair, not to many sarawaks out there, and hopefully Kara produces some this year. Here's a picture of my sarawak from Garby to compare.Keep the pics coming as they grow.
