What I always did was place a lizard or snake in the enclosure. As soon as the patchnose saw the movement, he would go after the lizard/snake. I would then remove the food item and a place a mouse fuzzy in (live). I eventually used this to get him to take live fuzzies without hesitation, and then got him onto f/t without trouble, though sometimes he would only take live. Good luck.

of the several I have kept, almost all went for Anoles. A third of those went for fuzzy mice later.

An important thing to remember is that smaller food items are required than one would have for a ratsnake of the same size.

My WC (wild caught) Western Patch-Nosed has always fed well on frozen/thawed mice. In three years he has always been a good eater but he must be left alone or he will refuse to eat. He has always remained aggresive but has grown quite large (and fat) for his species.
