Well Frank, it looks like I'm gonna have to buy you a drink in Daytona....

It's kind of a kick in the face now, especially due to the fact that I decided to hold off from cutting the egg which contained the live baby yesterday... I guess he suffocated/drowned while in the egg after making the slit, for his head was positioned at the very bottom of the egg; opposite of where the slit was.. All of the other eggs contained dead, full term babies.... crap, couldn't I have lucked out with just 1? Oh well, better luck next time. Let's hope I don't F things up with the next clutch that's due in a month... Take care everybody,

Bob

Let's play guess the sexes with the dead babies...Going by head shape, I would have to say MFFMFF, going by the top right pic...hahaha

Well, I guess you can say that I'm real easy going, and it takes a lot to get me down... Just gotta keep my head up, improve on the mistakes that I've made, and move on..

Have a great day everybody..

I´m really sorry they where dead, but like you said, now you know better next time.
But it is quite heartbraking to see such beautiful creatures, just there, but all dead.
But I guess that makes the succes feel even better.

All the best to you with your next clutch.

regards,

Rasmus

That's a real bummer, Bob. Hopefully the other (two?) clutches will fare better!

sorry to hear, hope you do better next time. Just remember bigger container, spread the eggs out a bit and offer more medium. There could be other things wrong too bt thats what screams to me with your picture.

I have done the same myself so do not feel bad.

I am not if you read the mag articules done years ago, But I believe I mentioned that monitors were the easist reptile I ever recieved eggs from, they just keep throwing them at you. But, not the easist to recieve babies from. The hard part with monitors is nesting to hatching.

You are now learning that what you have already done is the easy part. Yes, you could have been lucky(i was) but sooner or later, you will have to learn it. Hopefully now, it will be with common captive hatched reptiles and not rare WC's that are rarely bred.

So far, your doing a good job, the key is staying at it. Good Luck and I look forward to a rum and coke. Sorry for the loss. FR

Monitors, monitors everywhere
and all the food they ate.
Monitors, monitors everywhere,
their parents loved to mate.

I am sorry to see that, I wanted them to make it. I have talked to you about them so much I feel like they were my own!
Now you know what to do with this next clutch if the same thing occurs...Live and learn..How do the others look?
