pinoy May 31, 2004 07:39 PM

i just bought a 4 month old mexican black kingsnake from a pet store. when i first got it and put it in it's cage it would move around a lot. the whole day today all it does is just lay there. i guess it's sleeping? i thought these snakes were supposed to more active compared to other snakes

I don't have a King yet but have you checked your husbandry to make sure temps, hides, etc are correct?

could be it's resting now. does it have slit pupils? could be it's a nocturnal snake that will move about at night.

The snake is adjusting and very stressed about being moved to another location. Give the snake at least 3 days from time of purchase to help get adjusted to a new home before holding him. This way..he may be more relaxed and more comfortable around the time you hold him. Make sure he has a hide box and good temps, what you stated, 82 sounds right. If you have aspen, they love to burrow in that and he is enjoying being out of sight.

Take care!
