and...we have EGGS!

cv768 May 31, 2004 09:14 PM

Our mali female is laying eggs as I type. I'm going to set the incubator for 90F...use vermiculite as a medium (barely damp) and hopefully in 2-3 months I can post that we've got hatchlings.

Any suggestions as to if my temps and medium is ok?

14 eggs have been laid in total...I definitly disturbed her to take out the first 14...probably a bad idea but nonetheless I did it because it seemed she had fallen asleep for the night and won't be laying anymore until tomorrow moning.

I can feel at least 3 more in her belly so there's probably 3-6 more waiting to be laid. Amazing! Every time one of our animals lays eggs I am amazed! Amazed at how so many very large eggs can come out of such a small animal such as our beautiful uromastyx...(Lucy is her name in case anyone cares)

I'll keep everyone posted as to how the eggs are holding up as well as Lucy's condition.

That makes a total of 15...I still believe she's got at least 1 more inside her. But we'll have to wait and see.

Again...any suggestions for incubator temps or medium?

Right now they are in at 90F in vermiculite barely damp.

Congratulations! My only suggestion is to use a nice deep medium (either perlite or vermiculite) and a large container for incubating. It is easier and more forgiving of mistakes if you go bigger. Best of luck!!

did you check the care sheets or the links at the top of the page? i am pretty sure that they go into egg laying on them. i know it always feels better when someone tells you personally but everyone seems to trust those care sheets.
