Whats the odds?

chris nicholas Jun 01, 2004 01:46 AM

I bred a male dh sunglow(who did prove the year before) to a het albino female, who I bought from a very well known and trusted breeder. Well 34 huge babies later, no white snakes.
Anyone have any bad odds like this?

Not out of the realm of possiblity. rough guess... in the millions, if they are both deffinate hets.

Stupid question, are they both het for the same strain?

Chris-

Don't feel so bad, I bred a DH Sunglow Male to a Coral Albino Female and out of 13 babies, there were only three white ones, 1 Sunglow (Dead) & 2 Albinos. I didn't even crack 25% and I should have gotten 50% White snakes. Oh Well, I guess it happens.

Take Care,

what goes on we never hear about. Many assume that because they bought an animal from a "well known breeder" that it is guaranteed to be what they say it is. I know of a situation where several employees of a reputable breeder replaced het animals with normals. The breeder sold many of these high end animals to people and later found out that over a dozen of the hets they had sold weren't hets at all. Now, they knew there was a problem but couldn't address it because of two reasons. They didn't want to ruin their reputation by admitting this had happened plus they couldn't afford to eat the cost. Believe me this may not have been an isolated incident.
