Sweating egg...........

jeanne Jun 18, 2003 11:45 AM

Hi everyone!

I read in a post a while ago that sometimes right before an egg is about to hatch it starts to sweat, well one of my eggs (a gigantic one too) started to sweat 2 nights ago, it still hasn't hatched and now it is a little sticky.

Should I be worried? I really don't want to loose the egg, should I do anything to help it along or just leave it alone?

Thanks

What day of incubation are they at? I think the sweating is due to an excess of humidity. try lowering the humidity to see if that helps. i don't think that too much moisture adversly affects the eggs directly but it can en courage mold and bacteria growth.Hope i helped

well the best advice I can give is don't mess with it. If it is really close to hatching time it will be soon. Cutting of an egg usually does much more harm than good. It is hard to set back and do nothing but it is best by far. Hope all goes well.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. It is only a couple of days away from hatching (if even that). I hope it is ok. I will let you know what happens.

Thanks again....

and at what incubation temperature?

Usually a sweating egg will hatch within 48 hours max. If it is getting sticky it may have died in the egg. Or, it may not have been sweat at all, but fungal slime caused by gecko inside dying.

It has been sweatinig for 48 hours tonight. It was sticky last night but this morning it was wet again, not sticky...Weird Huh?

It has been incubating for over 50 days now @ 88 degrees. All of my other eggs have taken over 50 days to hatch so it isn't taking longer than expected, it is also a very large egg, almost twice the size of the others.

What do you think I should do? Should I open it up, but it would really break my heart if I kill it by opening it, but then again, what if it dyes because I don't open it?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks
