A local pet store has a pair of 2 foot long black snakes listed as "Pearl Bellied Therids." They are uniform black. The bellies are dark and not patterned. One has two white markings on its lower chin, and the other has two red markings of the exact same size in the same place. The scalation on the head roughly conforms to most kingsnakes. The anal plate is single. A friend of mine thinks these are just Black Kingsnakes, and says that some coloration on the chin is normal for juveniles. Does this sound correct? Has anyone ever heard the term "Pearl Bellied Therid"? These are consignment animals; the owner also has some asiatic species on consignment the same store (False Water Cobras). Any help or confirmation on the ID of the "Pearl Bellied Therids" would be appreciated.
