I have talked to anybody that would listen on the net about my Red earred sliders problem. I have a 39 gallon tank I change 50% of the water every week and completely clean the tank once monthly. I also have a filter. I have 2 RES's One is still small and the other is the size of the palm of my hand. The problem is that about 2 months ago I noticed little white almost translucent "squigly" things in the water. I immediately took the turtles out and poured clorox in the tank. You should have seen all the little squigly things coming up! They all died I cleaned the tank again and again with HOT water and soap. I put the RES's back in there and everythings been fine till tonight - I noticed them in there again! Nobody seems to know what they are and my Hubby says maybe it's just something that comes along with having RES's but I won't rest till I find out what they are! (And if they could be dangerous to my family) We don't have a vet in our area that treats RES's. Thanks for anything you can tell me. Kivey03@msn.com

Those things are yucky but harmless. They usually breed in your filter medium. No one seems to have been able to find a permenant way to get rid of them, but they will not hurt your turtles or you. Replacing the tank and filter is probably the only way to get rid of them.

Thanks so much! that's good to here. I've been freaking about those things. i've changed the water over and over and they keep coming back eventually! I was assuming they must not be harmful to the Res's because they seem fine. Thanks again! K
