rescuing a nile and a savannah monitor (long)

diate Jun 01, 2004 10:29 AM

Rescuing 2 monitors. They are about 6 inches long right now. I have 2 20gal tanks for them right now. There are hides, basking spots, and a branch to climb on in both. There is also a food dish and a water dish that is big enough for them to soak in. The temps for the Nile are about 85 degrees and the savannah is about 90. I have crickets and superworms for them right now and a freezer full of fuzzies. At what size can I start on the fuzzies (they are for my snake but he can share)? Also, how much and how often should I feed them?

These guys are from a pet store who isn't caring for its creatures well. I also took a hingeback tort. They will all be going to the vet next week and put up for adoption as soon as I and the vet feel they are stablized and as socialized as possible. I will be working with them everyday to try to get them handlable.

Thanks for your help
Brett

Give them both a basking spot of 130f. I feed my juvies daily, but you could feed every otherday. I would give mine as many crickets they want daily and every other day a few fuzzies. If you have a hot enough basking spot, they should be able to handle fuzzies now. And also make sure to dust the insects with calcium. By the indoor formula of MinerAll and dust the food with it.
Good luck with your new monitors!

Well general rule of thumb is to feed them something equal in size to there head...idk ive been dealing with monitors for a long time and thats what ive gone with...
