Snails are a natural part of a RES diet, and they love them. You will have to watch your other tank, snails have a way of getting out of hand, but they do clean up some algae and I think they look really neat.

If they don't have shells they aren't snails. Of course mine have shells. And no, you wouldn't have to buy shells, unlike hermit crabs their shells grow with them. If you have shelless snails, you actually have slugs...which the turtles can also eat, but they don't live underwater very long.

Is it okay to put the bigger snails, like from outside in the tank. And what would happen if the turtle accidently ate it with the shell?? I have a snail and im thinking of putting it in my tank.

Snails can carry parasites, especially wild ones. Turtles do eat them shell and all, the calcium is good for them. They crunch them right up.

Snails can come in on aquatic plants from the pet store, or with feeder fish. They do not spawn out of nowhere, but they do reproduce rapidly, and most pet stores consider them pests for that reason.

Pretty easily.... my snail came with the ghost shrimp. I just posted recently (look down at "invasion of the snails" that I suddenly found myself with over a 100 snails which thankfully remained in my filter so were easily removed. Although I think I have seen 1 or 2 remained in the tank. Nothing survives in my tank for very long unless it is fast or too big for my turtle.. LOL.. so the snails don't have much of a chance.
