Strange RES Behavior

queenie37 Jun 01, 2004 02:08 PM

I'm hoping someone can help me! My son has a RES. We've only had him for about 7 months so I'm not too sure how old he is. For the past 2-3 weeks he has been doing something strange. He sticks his head way out of the water and open his mouth really wide and he makes a really weird sound - I don't really know how to describe it. I looked in the book that we have on turtles and the only thing I could come up with is possibly he has a respiratory infection. I can't really tell if he has trouble breathing or is gasping for air. Has anyone ever had a turtle that did this or made weird sounds?

Actually I have a little hatchling red belly turtle that used to do that. I didn't and I still don't know what was wrong with it, but it is some kind of respiratory disease, you may want to check it out with a herp vet.
