Hydrodynastes gigas - eggs... need help

Osteolaemus Jun 01, 2004 03:09 PM

Just curious who's bred these guys and what temps you cooked the eggs at?

Any other incubation tips would be much appreciated!

Just treat them like any colubrid eggs, good humidity and 82 degrees. They'll be fine.

That's what I figured (and have been told by a few others.

Thanks!

Well, I'd be able to help you out more...but my pair didn't take, so I'm going to try and mix things up next spring. My pair apparently responded to nothing in particular, and my male attempted copulation about a million times, but to no avail. I'm going to attempt a short "cooling" period with increased moisture levels next spring or late this year still and see if I can get my female in the mood more, or get my male more focused. Here's a picture of my male...I know I've posted it like a dozen times...but hey, never hurts...lol

I have only had my male for about 4 months and I borrowed the female from a friend roughly 2.5 months ago. So they must have got down to business rather quickly after being introduced. I keep them at a steady temp of 82-84. They experienced no cooling period or other changes.

Hmmm...maybe my male is just stupid then. Because I witness no sort of completed coputlation, and there was definatley no sort of gravid period in my female, even after months of breeding attempts...wonder what went wrong....

I produce Hydrodynastes gigas every year, and usually incubate them at approximately 82-84 degrees (median 83).
