Rack System Questions...

InsideOutsider13 Jun 01, 2004 04:38 PM

I currently have two leopard geckos, a male and a female. They are breeding and have given me three hatchlings and four eggs in the incubator. One of the hatchlings was sold to someone around me and I was looking for a rack system or something of the sort to hold the other hatchlings in. I want to raise them and then eventually take them to an expo. So this gets to my question - Where can I go to buy an inexpensive rack system? What online stores have an affordable rack system that I could use for the hatchlings? If there is really no such thing as an affordable rack system, then how can I build my own? What supplies are needed? Any information given on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

. . . and even though I could copy the url for you - it's easily found using the search button.

All i did was click on the search button - and typed in "rack system plans". The 2nd listing had a really nice rack plan in it.

Good luck. I've made 3 racks - and it's a lot of fun. Good experience too.

These are shelves I bought at Lowes for about $13 each. There are 2 sets in this picture. I use these for books & magazines, but I put the shoebax in to give you an idea about size. You could easily have 15 shoeboxes on this rack. Also, it goes together in about 10 minutes if you take a 5 minute break after putting on the first shelf. You would need to add heat tape or light rope to heat it.

If you are really wanting to go bigger, this is my other rack I built. I used 3/4" melamine shelving. Sides are 48" long, each shelf is 36". It holds 15 16 qt tubs with plenty of space. I use rope lights to heat it. Total cost about $70 (with screws & rope light).
