Can somebody help me identify an unusual ailment on my borneo?

snakeluver Jun 01, 2004 06:45 PM

I recently posted a similar message in the herp health forum but no response as of yet. However I will give a brief description as to what the problem is. On the end of my borneo's tail looks to be missing some skin ,as if it eroded off.Only about 1/16 th of an inch but it feels hard to the touch and looks thinner in circumference than the rest (abnormally).Again,it is only a 16th of an inch so I would like to know if anybody knows what this may be.The snake does not look stressed nor in pain,so I am hoping it is nothing to worry about. My blood is around 27" long and a little over a year old I would say.It eats fine and deficates fine,no skin problems or shedding problems either..Thanks for any info...

retained sheds.
I bought a Suriname boa 6 years ago who had the tip of his tail messed up because of this. He still breeds like crazy.
It won't hurt them and won't inhibit breeding.
If you could post a picture it would help to identify what is going on.

It does sound like retained shed at the tip of the tail. Not uncommon, but it will kill off the tissue at the end of the tail and he may lose it. You can host your pics at KS in the photo gallery and link from there.

Thank both of you for the help.I believe that was the problem. I was able to take it off but he did not like it too much. I will post picks though, unfortunately my budget does not allow me to buy the top of the line digital cameras that are out now so please bare with the photos I do have as I tried several times but the pixels just ain't there !

Again, Thanks !

well one problem could be that you have holes in the TOP of your cage!

I have a sterilite container EXACTLY like that to house my 1.1 BP's and my 1.0 red blood. I used a soldering iron to make holes, and it keeps about 60% humidity, and with spraying once every 4-5 days it stays around 70%, and he has had a perfect shed, eats and "other" things as well. lol
