I had twins last weekend...

Apparently not much action on the "carpet/diamond forum" so I figured I would post this here. Maybe its just me but I thought this was pretty neat. I have seen other breeder pics of twins before but I have never had it happen to me.

That's pretty sweet! Are the runts compared to the others?

Although they shared a shell, your snakes aren't true twins. What you see is the result of 2 embryos being "shelled" together.

A good description of this is in the Ross and Marzec book "The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas" pg 116.

That's interesting. A few years back when vpi was working with carpets, I was talking to Dave Barker at an expo and he was telling me about jcp twins that he hatched out. What made him think his might be "true" twins was that their head patterns were identicle. I've only hatched a couple of clutches of jcps and without exception, the head patterns have been different. Have you noticed this with yours? Just curious.

The head patterns are very similar but slightly off. The body patterns are also much "busier" than the rest of the hatchlings. True twins or not, that was a pleasant suprise. I have two more clutches to hatch out, about 30 eggs total, more suprises would be fantastic.
