Scale and horn question

Hey Lester, or others who have studied.
In watching my HL's eating it seems to be more and more apparent that the scales and horns, at least to a good extent are designed to inhibit ants from crawling onto them easily. I know that is not their only function but it seems to me to be part of it at least. Has anyone studied the scale layout with this in mind?
