Humidity and Temp requirements for Star Torts...

KevinM Jun 01, 2004 08:39 PM

Hello, I currently have an indoor russian tort and I am thinking about getting an Indian Star (G. elegans). I am looking for a small tort that can be kept outside here in South Louisiana. The summer temps are high (mid to upper 90's) as well as 80-100 percent humidity not being uncommon along with heavy rains. I know redfoots love it down here, but would stars do ok?? Looking for something I can set up in a large cattle trough or similar caging that can withstand the humidity more than anything.

Thanks

I don't think stars would do well the temp is fine but the humidity is way too high. I would stick with the redfoots b/c they like a little more humidity (not sure exactly how much, I don't keep them) and they may even be something else like an ornate box turtle (I keep one) and she requires a higher humidity. I am sure there are a few others too.

Good luck
Christina
