Finally getting somewhere...........

Brandon Osborne Jun 02, 2004 01:04 AM

As Sasheena posted below, it's been a hit and miss year so far. As of now, I've gotten 4 clutches of Apalachicola kings with some mixed results.

Clutch 1 consisted of 14 eggs and all were fertile. Up to now, there are 11 eggs that still look great, 2 starting to mold and 1 that is questionable.

Clutch 2 consisted of 10 eggs from a first time breeder, which is also only 2 years old. Of 10 eggs, 3 were fertile. Not so good, but clutch size was ok......and I only used one male for all 4 clutches.

Clutch 3 from another first timer.....11 eggs with 9 fertile. To date, they all look pretty good with the exception of 1 or 2. This is from the nice orange female I have.

Clutch 4 from a second time breeder. She gave me 13 eggs with 10 being fertile. Last year, this one threw 2 clutches with a total of 16 eggs. To date, all are looking good.

My newest clutch has been arriving all day. From this big girl.....a 2X het ghost brooksi female.

So far there are 22 eggs and counting. All look nice and clean. I better get a ghost out of this clutch. Last year was the 16 egg test, but I ended up with a bunch of 66% poss hets, a handful of hypos, and a few axanthics.

I'm expecting a clutch of N.E. axanthics any moment along with some Flames and possibly some Hypo Flames. I bred the female with a SUPER male that I was raising up as a female. That's two this year. One reason I don't trust popping. lol. My White phase female is in pre-lay shed along with a couple of other females.

Finally, the season is off to a start. Whether it's a good start is another story. The best thing so far is 18 healthy Green Tree Pythons that hatched on Mother's day.

I apologize in advance for anyone annoyed by the chondro pics. I'm just a proud papa.

Good luck to all with the season.

Brandon Osborne

Cute chondros.

At least you are having SOME luck with your Apalachicolas. (save a male for me!) That was my largest and most devastating disappointment of the season... not the lack of eggs, but the loss of the male. He truly was my favorite snake.

You'll have to post some pics when the babies start hatching. There's something absolutely wondrous about snakies hatching.

Cute chondros.

Thank you very much. They hold the same spot on my snake list as my brooksi and apalach kings. I can't get enough.....except for feeding neos sometimes.

I feel your pain. Losing any animal is devistating, but when it happens to be your favorite........it's 100 times worse. Here's pic of my FAVORITE snake.

You are absolutely right about that. I'll get pics going as soon as I see the first little nose.
