Good ant/bug protection for an outside cage

Was wondering what do you peeps with outdoor cages use, to keep ants and bug from crawling up the legs on the cage into the cham cage?, I will be spraying around it about 4 days to a week b4 i put him in it with a bug/ant killer., but was wondering what to use ither than the stuff they sell in the store? Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,

I don't have outdoor cages but I recall some folks using vaseline (or other greasy substance - bearing grease is good, I use it at the base of my hummingbird feeder poles Another option is to make a moat around the legs or stand them in water (depending on the material of your cage).

Keep in mind when spraying (you said you will do this before you get your animal?) is that spray travels and fumes linger so be careful what/when you use.

What I have done, which works, is to put each leg of the table in a shallow pan of water. The ants can't get to it, and whenever I'm misting him, I just refill as needed. It's not pretty, but it works. You can use gladware or the foil pans used for cooking and storing food.
