Florida.... yellow water??

sliderzucci Jun 02, 2004 11:13 AM

We just recently left Maryland to come to Florida for the summer. In Maryland the tap water was crystal clear, but when we filled the tank up here in Florida the water is very yellow. Does anybody know what this is, if it's harmful to the turtles, and if it can be treated?

I know that in california---if you move into an old house...the pipes rust. leave hot water on for 15 minutes...the water should get clear. if it stays yellow--call the water company. but it sounds like rust.

thanks for the reply. I thought that's what it was at first, but I know Florida water isn't the best drinking water from tap. This house is brand new so there shouldn't be rust. I'm wondering if it's some kind of extra chemical they use down here.

definitely call the water company. or even ask your neighbor to see what their tap water looks like. if florida water isnt good---you can go to the 99cent store or smart and final (i hope you have that over there) and buy gallons of water for cheap. your water sounds disgusting though. i hope its fixable.

I live in florida too, to me it sounds normal for that and it should go away once u break in the pipes. I was wondering tho, do u know if yur water comes from a well instead of regular tapwater? I know alot of homes in certain areas of fla are only hooked up to well water. U should probably have ur water tested!
