Went to vet, leos pooping green and blood, need advice please!!!!

jack7777766 Jun 02, 2004 04:41 PM

Hey All,
I went yesterday to the vet for 2 of my leos, that havent been eating or pooping. They have lost some weight in the last month too and the other day I saw one had pooped green and when I took her out she wasnt acting like herself and started bitting!

Id been looking for about 2 weeks to find a vet, and the one I went to has experience with exotics and leopard geckos but I dont think that much. Anyways when I took them Pixie the smaller one pooped liquid green on him and again today when I tried to feed her baby food, and Evey the bigger one pooped liquid green and blood at the vet and a little today when I was force feeding her baby food too.
Im extremely worried about them, since they havent been pooping the doctor tried to get a fecal from the blood and green liquid poop evey made in his office, and I called today to get the results the doc was busy and I have to call later or tommorow, but the secretary told me the results didnt show anything!!!
And also pixie has a black spot under her bellie thats not normal, the doctor wasnt sure it was abnormal which tip me of that he doesnt have that much experience with leos but I know her and shes never had that before.
The doctor told me to give them a laxative and try feeding them baby food that maybe they have something stuck inside them, even though I keep them in paper towels, but I dont think this is enough!!!!
Im gonna try to get ahold of him tonight, but I was wondering if anyone else had anything like this happen to there geckos, what it was and how you treated it and what happened???
Im extremely worried about my geckos, please help, all input is appreciated!!

Thank You
Jack

The biting is a sign of pain. Generally lucid animals that start to bite mean that they are hurting somewhere. It sounds like it could be either a parasite, or possibly cocciddia (which i dont have much expereince with, but i think is bacterial). I know that it will cost a bunch, but if your vet cant find anything i would try finding a new one. Have your vet look for cocciddia and parasites. Make sure that if you are giving baby food, that you give all natural food without salts or sugars. Chicken is best, or lamb. The best best thing for them is stuff called Hills A/D diet from the vet. Supplement lightly with calcium/ no phosporous. good luck.

Well the problem is that they arent pooping, so no matter who I take them too they wont be able to check for parasites or coccidia.
I knew this in the first place but I decided to take them anyways, because they were doing so bad.
He actually told me to get himm vegetable baby food like acrrot which I got and fed them a little today and im gonna givethem a little more, you sure baby food with meat is better???
Does this guy know what hes talking about???
Thanks

Leos are carnivors, so it's unusual that he'd advise veggie baby food. A/D is an excellent food source for sick leos. You can get a can at any vet's office for around $1.20. You may try using a probiotic on them. If their systems are out of balance, the probiotic will help straighten it out. I've used one from my vet calle Probiocin.
