how to cool

newinside Jun 02, 2004 05:01 PM

Hello.

I will be getting a crested soon and I have my viv set up and am making sure that I can maintain the proper temps, etc. My problem is that it is probably a bit too warm, usually in the mid 80s during the day.

Are there any ways that I can cool the viv just a bit?

Thanks for any help.

how does your room get to the mid 80's?? do you not have ac?

i suggest moving it to a cooler room.

Yes, it does get to the mid 80's. My place has ac, but there aren't seperate controls for different rooms and setting it at a proper temp for upstairs makes it very cold downstairs.

I would put it elsewhere, but upstairs is the only place with the room and the only place that is not very loud and high traffic.

Sigh. Thanks for the advice. I will be really dissapointed if it turns out that I can't get the crested.

Honestly... my A/C is fritzy and my place will be at 85 for several days or a week sometimes. I keep all sorts of heat sensitive animals (including cresties, cat geckos and mandarin rat snakes) and none of them seemed to mind. It's us mammals that suffer! A few of the snakes would sit in their water bowls, though. I can't say if it will work or not, but if you try it just make sure they have plenty of access to water. Misting and a fan would probably work wonders with a screen cage.

Well I dont know how your room is set up, but my gecko room tends to get a little hot on really warm days. If there is a window letting in light i would drape something over it or close the blinds. Use artificial light, but not directly on the cage. Also, running a fan in the room really helps if you are using glass vivariums. You may be the perfect candidate for a screen cage, they tend to stay cooler.

I do have glass vivs. I will try a fan in there and, if that doesn't work, look into a screen viv.

Thanks!
