Okay, so it's an update on my cornsnakes' eggs.
Clutch 1: Hermes (Striped Normal) x Aphrodite (Normal het Motley), Day 28: 10 eggs that were in too moist a substrate... the clump of four eggs were white moldy, have been treated with foot powder. All the eggs have "strange" shells (because of the excess moisture?)... almost striated.... little islands of white shell with "cracks" of translucent shell. I'm pretty sure that was caused by the extra moisture, and the reduced moisture should take care of any danger to the eggs.... however I'm concerned also about the consistency of the shells. Last year I noted that shells of the one egg that got moldy was twice as thick as the other shells.... do I need to worry that the four eggs might have too tough eggshells for the babies to get out? Also the striated shells of the rest of the clutch... I'm again worried about the toughness of teh shells? Any suggestions? Should I wait 70 days, and if they haven't hatched put tiny slits in .... if I see no movement and/or get a whiff of something unpleasant, check it out more closely, and if there is movement, leave them in peace to exit at will? Or if not that....?
Clutch #2: Hermes x Athena (Anery Striped), day 26, 12 eggs laid, 6 slugs. One of the 6 "good" eggs has turned blue and the veins appear to have disappeared. I fear I have lost that egg... but the remainder appear to have gotten a LOT bigger!
Bold veins in all of them.
I hope they turn out to be very nice indeed.
Clutch #3: Hermes x Calypso (Reverse Okeetee), day 24, 21 eggs, no slugs. One ruptured and died. The remaining 20 seem fine, but a couple of them are "sweating" so I'm a bit worried that I might lose some. Most if not all show very strong veins though. This clutch will prove out whether or not Hermes is Het Amel.
Roll on July so I can stop stressing about eggs and start stressing about hatchlings!
