Kingsnake help

Obediah2 Jun 02, 2004 07:04 PM

I recently saw 4 common kingsnakes in a 300 yard area over the course of 4 hours. This place is about a 6 hour drive from my house and I am trying to decide if it is worth it to go back, or if that was just a fluke. I don't collect them or anything, so in theory I think the snakes would be there. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It has been my experience that finding Eastern Kings is either feast or famine. I've found 3 in one day before near the Haw River in NC where I had been 20 times before and never seen one. Then went back to the same spot another 10 times and only saw one other eastern king. I believe that they spend a lot more time underground than most people realize and only surface on appropriate days/times of the year.

This has been my experience in piedmont NC. I would be interested in hearing other people's experiences from elsewhere.
