My almost 2 year old Ball Python hasn't eaten since January 1st, regardless of what was offered. But she has acted normal and friendly, though. Three days ago things changed. She hasn't come out of her hide box in three nights and today when I checked on her, she hissed (first time ever) and jumped when I tried to pull her out.

Any ideas why she is so upset? Is it time for a vet visit? Her temps are good.

Thanks,
Karen

I agree that shedding could be the issue.

I just got new Ball and at the store she was totally mellow as held her for some 30 top 40 minutes but when I got her home she started hissing at me and even tried to bite me once. She also wasn't eating although she had been eating well at the store. The store owner gave me a free Rat fuzzie the day I bought her but she wouldn't eat it when I offered it over several days.

1. I noticed she was going to shed so I knew she would be [bleep]y and not ready to eat. Today she started pulling the skin back.

2. When I went to the store today another guy told me she was eating MICE fuzzies Not Rat fuzzies so I got 2 mouse fuzzies and sure enough she ate them both.

Dear Concerned Owner:

First , are you certain "she" is a she? Secondly, has she EVER been exposed to any males? Thirdly, If exposed, when? Has she alwasy eaten normally before January 1? Anser these questions and I think we'll be running down the answer.

No chance of males... Pet store "thought" she was a girl, no actual probing. She ate normally before Jan 1st. I just fed her a live mouse, she struck, wrapped and the damn mouse got away! So I got the mouse with my tongs, thwacked it about 6 times against the wall (ick ick ick) and presented it again. She struck, wrapped and now is thinking about eating it.

I know I should have thwacked it first, but I was a chicken. Now, should I try more today or wait until Sunday and try 2-3 fresh kill?

Thanks.

Karen
