Pics of my new Corn "Mysty"

Lyn Jun 02, 2004 07:36 PM

For those of you who remember me, I have finally returned to the world of Corns. I used to have the website "Here There Be Serpents" which included a Corn Snake Gallery featuring pics donated by members of this board. I had to part with all of my Corns and other snakes due to some unfortunate family problems. Thankfully they have been resolved and my collection has been slowly rebuilt. I am looking forward to renewing old aquantances and meeting all the new folks here! I have been nervous to get a Corn because they are so very addicting (I don't need to tell any of you that), but when a friend of mine, and fellow forum member, offered me this beautiful girl I just couldn't resist. She is a normal but has very interesting colors. Brown saddles on a speckled gray background with bright orange splotches along her sides. She spent the night in the care of Fed Ex, and I spent the night awake worrying over her. Managed only a few winks of sleep the went nuts all morning every time a car went by. Was so happy when she arrived safe and sound. She's a super sweet snake and I'm just thrilled to have her. I can feel the Corn Itch creeping in, but am going to fight it like mad this time. I have available space in my Reptile room but it is currently earmarked for a Tortoise Pen. I hope Mysty loves her new home as much as I love her! Thanks again Traci!

Here she is getting her first peek at me, and my first peek at her...

A better view of my new girl...

Exploring her new enclosure...

I have been redoing my basement and made a new stand to hold four of my 40 breeders. It's working great and didn't cost very much. Just 30 cinder blocks at 86 cents each and four 2x4x8 boards for a couple bucks each. Compared to the cost the wrought iron stands go for around here, $90 for a stand that holds two 40 breeders, this fit much better into my pocketbook. The upper left tank holds my Rat Snake Pumpkin, the upper right is Mysty's new home, the two tanks below house some of my Leos. I'll post pics of the whole room when it's done.

>>Welcome back Lyn.
Good to see you again.
You are bound to have a hard time controlling your desire for more corns but good luck to you there.
Antway, glad to see you back and good luck

Hey Jimmy,
Nice to see ya and great to be back. One of the things that will help me keep my colletion down will be space. What I did last time was to fall in love with the little babies, they only needed a small shoebox on a heat pad, easy and cheap, would worry about larger setups down the road... But then I had a dozen snakes who needed larger setups all at the same time! I would like to think I learned from that lesson. I try to get all of my animals into their adult sized enclosures before pondering a new addition. Of course the reptile shows will be coming up soon so I make no promises other than that I won't go too nuts again! It's so hard because every trip into a pet store causes me to fall in love with a dozen animals and I feel I "need" them all. As you can see by my sig line I've fallen victim multiple times already! Having Mysty and being back on this board is sure to make it tempting to get one of this color and one of that pattern, but I will do my best to hold strong! Has anyone started a Corn Anonymous group for hopless addicts yet?

I'm blanking here. Is "Cream" a new morph or have I just forgotten what it is, or is it a new name for an old morph? I'm still getting used to the major Corn Snake latin name change. I had an excellend handle on all colors and genetics back in the "good old days" but for some reason Cream just doesn't ring any bells. Your collection sounds loveley! Like a living rainbow! Best of luck with your little kinked rescues. I'm glad you like Mysty, I think she's very pretty. I was working down there most of the day and she's curled under her water bowl but has her head sticking out and was just watching me for hours. Really too cute. Could you post a pic of one of Creams?

I will post a picture of each of my creams.
Most of these pics are reruns, so sorry to everyone who has seen them so many times before.

Lyn you have actually seen the first two. They were a lot younger and I didn't know Yoda was a creamsicle until talking to the breeder and discovering its history.

OK, I get it, Cream short for Creamsicle. Yes, I remember Creamsicles. Arwen turned out great, and I love that Yoda has a "YO" on his head. That Stripe is super cool. They are all beautiful snakes, thanks for sharing the pics! I wish I still had the Corn Snake Gallery so I could steal them! Unfortunately I lost all of the pics in a computer crash. Plus I had baby pics of my Leos and Ferrets and they were all digi pics, all lost... Computers are great most of the time but when they go bad it can really mess you up! Congrats on your beautiful snakes!

Sorry to hear about the crash and loss of all of your pics. That really sucks.
Yes, Arwen turned out quite beautiful. At least to me anyway. Some people don't really care for creams. (not pure bloods)
They are probably my favorites.

Very cool set up! Can't wait until I can afford a house and get a "snake room." I just got a job as a cop in St. Louis, and am enjoying an apartment pretty cheap right now. I have ten snakes, most of which are in the home made cage pictured below. I currently have 30 eggs in an incubator, but I also have a female ready to lay any day now. I really like your cinder block set up, very cool. Anyway, welcome back. If you ever get a speeding ticket in St. Louis, let me know!

Your enclosures look great and congrats on the eggs. The only animals I'm breeding now are my Leos, but so far this year no good eggs. I love your names. Princess Bride is my favorite movie. My husband loves Silent Bob. In my original group of Corns I had a male Ghost that I saw in a pet store and fell in love with. He had the Scream Mask on the top of his head. He wasn't for sale, someone who worked at the store was going to buy him. Then they didn't but someone else was going to buy him, I asked about him for 3 months until finally the girl said he was going up for sale that Saturday. Guess who was there when they opened the doors? Then later they put his sister up for sale so I grabbed her. Of course I had to name her Sidney since her brother had the Mask! I also had an anery motley named Bindy. Good luck with your new job and with getting a reptile room some day! I have four 55 gallon tanks, five 40 breeders, two 30 gallons, and three 20 gallon setups, plus a big enclosure for my Python, and I'm going to build a Tortoise Pen. I've painted and carpeted the basement and that's where they all are. Oh, plus the cages for my ferrets is down there and my breeding mice.

Its hard to give an entire collection of corns. I gave up over 30 corns 10 years ago and regretted it every day since. However, now I've managed to build it back up again and BEWARE...you WILL get hooked again...it is INEVITABLE...resistance is futile! Well, good luck with your new beginnings and that is one nice looking corn you posted.
Sincerely,
Jason
