bad eating habits?

irishmanhoe Jun 02, 2004 09:41 PM

Hey guys, I have a juvenile corn currently feeding on larger pinkie mice. He feeds actively, but he doesnt constrict the mouse. He goes for the head and starts eating. Dont get me wrong, the mouse is far dead by the time it gets halfway in his mouth, but will this create futre problems when he needs larger prey?

My wife makes me close the door when I feed rat pups because they have a nice scream being eaten alive.I dont know how but corns know when to constrict or not.

I have 2 corns and use to have a king, my king started to constrict after 4 weeks of feeding and my corns still eat like your describing, they will realize the help they need and coil when need be. I had a calif king adult that was fed nothing but FT and wouldn't coil so i knew NEVER to given live. There are snakes that do coil on FT, just a matter of time is all. Just monitor it to make sure when you feed live and the prey couldn't hurt them, that they have the coil thing going. Try giving FT now, thats how my corns who ive fed live pinkies too got transitioned and although I enjoy watching the action I perfer FT now if I can. My BP will constrict and i can enjoy him as he is not transferring over to FT, everyone else is. So try FT next feeding, soak in baggie in hot water and feed so it's giving off smell and should take it, mine did and good luck.
