I've read on some other forums about waterlands or something? I am assuming they are a type of rubbermaid like container that have half for water and half for land so turtles can be put outside. I am interested in trying to get my 2 RES outside a bit this summer but I am trying to figure out the funnest and safest way to do this for them. Anyone ever heard of these, know where I can get something like this or have any ideas for me? I don't want anything too expensive since one, I don't have much money and two, I live in NY and the weather is iffy...never know if it's going to be sunny or snow, even in June, lol. So it's not like it's going to be a main stay for them. Just a few hours every once and a while. Is it just easier to rig up a rubbermaid container with water, a basking spot and shade?? And one more little question...do you think if I do this they will start to hate their tank inside? It's not feasible to let them stay outside 24/7 so I don't want them to be miserable inside once they get a taste of being outside.
Thanks! Walnut

Those tubs are expensive, a kiddie pool is bigger and much cheaper.

i bought it. its ugly. my turtle didnt like it. my turtle likes the tanks more. the waterland tub isnt see-through so she'd get scared when i would walk by her. and it doesnt allow that much water.

Waterland tubs are really cool and useful when you need an egg laying site for gravid females. The tub however does not offer a deep enough water area for adult RES. The large tub offers a bigger water area but still not deep enough either. I have baby RES in the small tub that I have and they seem to be doing really good. I have adult diamondback terrapins in a big stock tank. I am planning on putting the terrapins in the waterlands when they are ready to lay. The waterland tub is very helpful if you breed or have gravid turtles, but if you only want something to make them a home i would suggest stock feeding tanks as they can be filled with water almost completely and then a basking area can be made to your specifations. However, Pete Jansema, the person who invented waterland tubs gives you a lifetime gaurantee on the tubs so they are something to look into. I use both stock tanks and waterlands and plan on purchasing more of each.

Hope this info helps

Joel
